"The Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the oldest unresolved agenda item on the United Nations Security Council. Since the 1947 partition of the subcontinent, the region has been a focal point of conflict between India and Pakistan. The struggle for the right to self-determination, as promised by UN resolutions, reached a critical turning point on August 5, 2019, when the Indian government unilaterally abrogated Article 370 and 35A. This move stripped the region of its special status and intensified a multi-year communication blackout and administrative restructuring aimed at altering the internationally-recognized disputed status of the territory."
